Japanese Dvd's

Post by sharinganuser55 » Sun Jul 23, 2006 11:07 pm

For most anime I know, the Dvd's are not out in America. But I have found a place where I can get the Japanese Dvd's, I only have one question. Will the Japanese dvd's work on american dvd player? Or will I have to mod the dvd player or something.

chances are you will have to get special software or "flash" your dvd drive to be able to play dvds from Japan
this thread pretty much asks the same thing

you could probably find free software that'l do this for you by using google

This question comes up a lot, perhaps we should have a sticky on it.

Most DVD players can be set to region free rather easily. Instructions can be found online.

However, what you need to be concerned with is whether or not your DVD-ROM/RAM/RW whatever, can rip them, and the short answer is: yes, it can be ripped. Eather by hacking the firmware, or by using a program that bypasses region coding entirely.

Get those R2s, they are win and awsm.

Of course, if you want to view R2's on your home player, I suggest you check to see if it's region code can be altered BEFORE you order. :P

And uh, you probably wanna try and make sure they are actually Japanese region 2 dvds, not pirated region 0 bootlegs from hong kong. I don't know why, but people tend to think the bootlegs are official japanese releases :\

Offical Bootlegs! Sold from the back of the disgruntled animation producer who was fired midway through production! :D
