it's painstaking without a newer machine because of RAM needs and overall system performance demands. but you can try an older version of adobe premiere, something like 6.0 maybe. but you'd be better off asking Santa for a new computer.

There are plenty of other video editing programs out there; check out the software list stickies in the <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... 1">General Video</a> board, find some that interest you, and then find out what system requirements each one has. You may find one that can run on your machine.

It's so weird, having them in General Video now instead of Video Software Help...

To original poster:

You're probably going to have problems editing without a newer system. Bah, I'm just repeating what's already been said.

what you talking about? i could edit perfectly fine with premiere 6.5 on my 600mhz laptop with 320mbs of ram :o and ram really doesn't improve editing all that much (to a degree). a processor upgrade has more of an effect then getting more ram.

And I'm sure the vdubmod/avisynth method takes even less.

mjpegs or editing with avisynth?

mjpegs:
true. using mjpegs isn't very cpu intensive so it makes editing a whole lot easier. but it's very time consuming (and uses more disk space then just using avisynth in premiere) as you have to make mjpegs of everything. then again, you can always do the mjpegs while you're sleeping/at work/at school :P

editing with avisynth:
well, to a degree :P there isn't a shit load of overhead due to the editing program(s) only being notepad and vdub. but you still get slow downs in vdub when you're looking for scenes. also depending on how you do it, the encode time could be horrendous as well as just viewing the compiled "timeline" before encoding (i've done tests >.>).

hehe, there is a middle ground tho... if you are comfortable with avisynth and are limited on diskspace so that you can't make mjpegs off all the sources, you could make avisynth "clips". you make a new script for a "clip" you want to use within the source then make mjpegs from those. edit with the mjpeg clips and then switch them out with their corresponding script and you pretty much get a bait and switch version of the "make huffyuv clips before you edit" method.. uses less disk space then the huffyuv clip method (unless you delete the dvds after you think you have everything) and the mjpeg method :O did that make any sense?

think i said to much :|
