Play additional media types on the Mac for Quicktime

Post by macguy » Sun Jul 15, 2007 2:25 am

There are plenty of good alternatives such as VLC, MPlayer OSX etc but for those who would rather play it in quicktime, there is a new solution. Note that this application is only for macs. It can play the following formats.
• MS-MPEG4 v1 & v2
• DivX
• 3ivX
• H.264
• FLV1
• FSV1
• VP6
• H263I
• VP3
• HuffYUV
• ffvhuff
• MPEG-1 & 2 video
• FRAPS
• Windows Media Audio v1 & v2
• Flash ADPCM
• Xiph Vorbis (in Matroska)
• MPEG Layer II Audio
• libavformat, from the ffmpeg project. along with AVIImporter.component:
• AVI file format
• FLV file format
• libmatroska, along with matroska-qt.component:
• MKV file format
• Subtitle parsing
• SSA
• SRT
• liba52, via A52Codec
• AC3 audio
Application Name: Perian

Version: 1.0

Be warned though, this breaks Toast's usage so if you use the application regularly, then this application shouldn't be used until further updates. I found it quite useful as it works fairly well. No crashes in my area as of yet. Just thought I would share it for any fellow mac users out there (if there are any).
Whatever happens, happens....Spike
