new and confused

I'd like to make an amv. I have a mac and i'm trying to use imovie, which seemed easy to use in the beginning. But all my clips I have are in .ogm format and it won't let me use those. How am I supposed to convert them, and to what format? It seems like everything is used for windows, which isn't any help if you're a mac user. I'm sure I can figure the rest of the amv making. I just need helping converting please!
