No, seriously. So I'm reading through A&E's technical Guides to all things Audio and video. And I'm working on some projects to get used to prepping video and audio for editing, and I ran across the section dealing with simultaneous masking, and a question comes to mind. Can I use this to create karaoke?
Now, although I have nothing against karaoke, I don't subscribe myself. But I have a wonderful disk of Japanese Shamisen music. The only problem is that it has folk performances that include a screaming japanese performer who is, in my view, getting in the way of some absolutely beautiful music.
I searched this thread for karaoke, and the most recent thread shown was in Dec of 2006, so I'm hoping that maybe someone might have a solution for the challenge. I do appreciate all the hard work that people have put into the forum, and intend to search for answers already posted before asking.
The methods I saw were an EQ filter of some sort (not specified) to take out specific frequencies, but this could clip other sounds at the same frequencies, or creating an inverse waveform to cancel parts of one channel from another.
The source material is from a cd, and is recorded in Stereo-Mono.
Thanks in advance.

so, like this?

it was in a nearby thread [not labeled Karaoke], but I think that's what you are looking for.
If you're lucky, you might also be able to find a loop in the audio.

thanks but no luck
I appreciate the reply. I was familiar with the idea and which software to use but wasn't sure if it would work since the original was in mono.
It didn't work but i'm so new to the software maybe things will go better down the line after I have some more familiarity with it. I followed the instructions in the video tutorial you pointed to, but the end result was that it just sounded like parts of the music were poorly recorded to sound as if they were in a cave (like you might hear on a bad radio show).
I will keep tinkering with audacity though; hopefully, it will improve other projects.
Thanks again.
