Ripping Blu-Ray discs

Post by AaronAMV » Mon Feb 09, 2009 12:19 pm

I'm planning on buying a season of an anime, but before I do... I need to know how to rip it if it's Blu-Ray.

This is how people get the 720p AMVs, correct? Get the HD footage from Blu-Ray? Is the process the same as ripping a standard DVD for the most part?

you need a blu-ray drive, but besides the obvious the process is pretty much the same.
blu-ray rippers (I don't think dvdfab hd is on that list, but it's another one)

So a regular DVD drive won't work? This is expensive... ;-;

But thanks for the info.

I meant that's how they get the footage to make 720p AMVs... If not, then how do they do it?

I'm willing to bet broadcasts (soft-subbed fansubs or RAWs) and upscaling in the overwhelming majority of cases.

The "and" there is important - a lot of stuff has been aired in HD but hasn't yet been released in anything but SD.

True HD satellite broadcasts ftw :up:! Although, they may not broadcast the true HD version for some time after. This was the case with Kannagi. The SD and upscaled HD versions were broadcast first, then a month or so after the true HD version was broadcast.

As for Blu-ray ripping I went with the commercial AnyDVD HD from SlySoft. Yeah, it's expensive, but I got it before they went to a subscription model. I don't even have a Blu-ray drive yet :lol: . I mainly got it because SlySoft is on top with all the latest copy protection schemes for Blu-ray and DVD. Or maybe I just wasted my money, but meh :roll:.
