Concerned about Vista

Post by ultimateX021 » Mon Jul 06, 2009 2:00 pm

I will be getting a Windows Vista Laptop real soon, but I'm not sure what programs or software suggested on this site can work with Vista. I was thinking about downloading the AMVapp 3.0 on the new laptop.

Would it be compatible with Vista and if I'm to get a new laptop for editing video clips and such, how much memory and what type would be recommended?

Everything in the new amvapp should work just fine.

If you want a laptop for editing, I would recommend 2gb of memory, and a rather large screen.

Yup, and a decent processor. You should be looking at larger, more powerful laptops for editing needs since these will certainly save you time and headache. (Until it sadly broke down), my 17" HP laptop (with Vista) handled all my editing needs just fine. Didn't need to do anything differently from XP, really.

Sounds good to me. There are many laptops that have at least 3gb or 4gb of memory and 320 gb hard drive. I do want to ask:

What is the advantage of having a large screen rather than a small one?

I found a laptop that has all the recommendations ya said, but the screen is small and it's more portable.

Because most video editing software requires a lot of screen real estate.

Oh. I get what ya mean.

Editing on a small screen doesn't cut out for operating on two screens at the same time. A very small screen crams up the space; let alone make it harder to see what's going on. I gotta see everything ya know.

Definitely a large screen like 17" or 16" is the best. 8-)

I don't wanna squint while I work.

Whoops! I meant two programs on one screen at the same time. Gotta work on the wording there.

Well, there's also the fact that generally, larger but more powerful computers cost a bit less than smaller but more powerful ones. My 17" was cheaper than a slightly-less-powerful 15" when I bought it. I guess part of it is minituarization - it's easier to cram powerful components into a larger PC rather than make them smaller.
