I'm new to this site and the forums are so huge that I don't know if something like this has been posted before. And if it has - burn this after reading (and maybe help me find the first one XD).
I have made a few amateur AMV's myself but I always used Windows Movie Maker witch is realy good and easy to use, but in order to further my skills and my work I am looking for new software. So maybe anyone could suggest any good free software and maybe some links to find it. Because I tried a few different things but I either downloaded bad versions of it or it was crap (I do hope it's the first).
Thank you very much in advance for any help at all.

I DON'T believe there are any good "free" editing software's but you're most likely gonna end up loving Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas !

You'll probably want to check out the Software Help forum to get a sense of what people are using; as far as free goes, it's pretty much trials or Cinelerra, which would also involve a fair amount of effort in teaching yourself Linux. It's your call whether you think this is a good use of your time, or if you'd rather spend the same time earning a few bucks to buy a commercial editing program and getting more reps in with it.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the venerable old Software Lists sticky yet.
(Now that the Software Reviews section of the website is gone, I can't point to that for info.)
There's also Zwei-Stein and AviTricks, and every time I suggest them, I always wonder if anyone around here has actually used either of them and knows what's good and bad about them.Kai Stromler wrote:... as far as free goes, it's pretty much trials or Cinelerra, which would also involve a fair amount of effort in teaching yourself Linux.

Re: What do you use?
I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9.0, with some help from Wax 2.0 and ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5.5.
Vegas is very cheap, I got mine for about £25 online and Wax is a useful free tool if you want to use special effects. An image editor might be useful as well.
Windows Movie Maker is generally a beginners' program. It's very limited, especially in the special effects area. I don't blame you for wanting a better program.
I would download a few free trials and check out some free programs 'til you find one that works for you.
