Post by Slywolf15 » Sun Jan 06, 2008 4:56 pm

Since I'm not able to use avi's at all for the moment because my vegas is messed up I wanted to ask what the next best format would be for editing would be.

what codec are you using in the avi? that's probably what's causing it to mess up more so than the container O.O

to get codec information right-click on the video file, and choose "properties" and click the tab that says "summery" it should be listed next to compression and if that doesn't work, get a program called GSpot and drop the file in it

Look, I know for a fact it isn't the codec. Especially when the codec is an mjpeg. Any avi file imported into vegas doesn't work at all. Now if you have a suggestion on that matter please visit my other topic in the other video editing software forum otherwise please keep to the matter at hand. I just want to start my project already.

Look, I have tried many different codecs within the containers. It won't read avi AT ALL!

AVI is a container, not a video format (read: codec) in it's own right. Since there are literally dozens of people here that use losslessly encoded AVIs (HuffYUV, Lagarynth) without any problem it's quite obvious there's another issue. Perhaps you have multiple decoders attempting to decode the same video stream at the same time, or no decoder doing it at all. You need to check for those sorts of things first. AFAIK there aren't any lossless video formats that don't go in AVI containers, so you need to figure this issue out before doing anything else.
