Compressing and interlacing questions

Post by Cheesethief » Mon Mar 31, 2008 4:12 am

I basically have two questions. When I compress files, they're going from about 1.5 Gigs, down to a little over 100 Mb. Using the "20 Megs per minute" rule of thumb, I'm way oversized (both my videos have clocked in around 4 minutes). Is there any other way to decrease a video's filesize aside from shrinking the film resolution?

Secondly, is there any way to remove interlacing after dubbing a video in VDubMod? I use Sony Vegas as my editor, can Vegas remove interlacing? I haven't figured out how to edit script in VDubMod (you're talking to a guy who failed basic computer programming in college). Is AVISynth have a more "drag and drop" or do I need to figure out script editing?

Okay, I guess that was technically more than two questions, but I appreciate any assistance anyway.

Get a better codec, you didn't indiate what yu were using. H264 does a better job than xvid as an example.

Ypu should always deinterlace prior to editng. Assuming you can still do so, I suggest the bait and switch method whereby you clean your source clips and replace them. Vdubmod has an interlacing filter, but I would not recommend it. AVISynth is the better option, but yes, you need to learn to code. It really isn't diffcult at all.

I'll try something besides xvid, I've got like a dozen different codecs, though I didn't see the one you mentioned. Any in particular work better with Vegas?
