Corruption after converting file?

ok I had an avi file that I converted to Lagarith using virtualdubmod.it finished converting so I tried to load it into Vegas to edit.When I clicked on the file,it crashed Vegas and I can't open the project anymore-the file for the project is still there but it will say File Not Found in Vegas when I try to open it.Also I cant delete the .avi file I converted.It just says it's corrupted and unreadable.Does anyone else have this?And how can I fix it?
