Converting from .vob to .mov
Okay, first off, I'm working on a iBook G4 laptop with one of the older version of iMovie. I can get my files from the dvds I bought onto my computer in .vob format just fine (thank you to the coold dude that made that how to guild on that). The guy that made it said that I should use DIVA to get it from .vob to .mov. That's where I run into a brick wall. Every time I select a file for the source it quites after a while of trying. I don't really know what I'm doing wrong, so any help would be great!
Thanks everyone!

That's fine, tell me what it says in memory. Here's a screen cap of mine.seanthesorcerer wrote:Okay, I'm sure if I'm looking in the right place but it said my Processor was 1.2 GHz PowerPC G4 as for RAM I couldn't find that in my 'about this mac' thing and I have no idea where else to look.
Sorry if I sound newbish.

Your external is immaterial. 512MB of ram should be enough to run DiVA, although I know many video applications requires a 1GB at least. Final Cut Pro 4.X and up won't even open on your system if you are running less than 1GB of ram.
Let's get more specific. Have you tried the "computer basics" like rebooting? Closing down all other programs? Making sure your system is clean and your hard drives have plenty of space? Are you trying to save to the external hard drive? Did you use mactheripper or did you use another ripping program?
Also, what source are you using, and are you getting any odd macroblocking inside the vobs?

I haven't tried rebooting, I'll try that now. I usually have all my other programs closed, my system is clean as far as I know, and I got roughly 12gb of free space.Kionon wrote:Let's get more specific. I am trying to save to the external HD, and for ripping I used the 0Sex program you suggested.
As for any odd macroblocking, I'm not entirely sure what that is.

Okay, move the files to the internal, and save to the internal. You only have to do this with one .VOB just to see if it works. I'm thinking that you may just not have the power to work with an external drive when encoding. Externals, especially USB, are way, way slower than internals. When I have issues like what you describe, I usually have to make the room on the internal.seanthesorcerer wrote:I am trying to save to the external HD, and for ripping I used the 0Sex program you suggested.
