Video is huge, conversion just makes it somewhat less huge.
Hi everyone!
I've been an AMV viewer for a whole lot of years, and about four years ago I finally made my first (and so far only finished) AMV. It's certainly not perfect, after all it is a first AMV, but I think it's pretty decent and I'd like to share it online if I can figure this issue out!
Well, the reason it's been sitting dusty on a DVD-R for years is that I can't seem to get it down to a workable size. The output file from Vegas, which I edited in, is an .avi file that's a whopping 2.89 GB! Any attempts to convert it to .mp4 result in getting it down to, oh, 300 or so MB, but that's a pretty ridiculous file size, too.
I have tons of AMVs on my computer so I know it's possible to have a good quality video in a reasonable file size, but I'm just not sure how to go about compressing it down to the size I'd like. Mind you, this video is 720 x 480 and 4 minutes 35 seconds...it really has no good reason to be so darn massive! I would like to keep it at those dimensions and would prefer as little noticeable quality loss as possible of course. Ideally I'd like it to be somewhere under 80 MB.
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated. It would be nice to be able to share this video with other people instead of having it sit around on my hard drive forever. Apologies for asking such a silly question, but, while I get the theory of AMVs and how to make a video and all of that, the technical aspects still somewhat elude me.

What are you using to place it in an .MP4?

I just used the program Super, which I picked up from slightly at random searches (I should've just come here first but I wanted to try and figure it out on my own!) and before that... I'm not sure, that was years ago, haha. I'm trying the AMVbe program now, we'll see how that goes!

Use neither. Use ZarxGUI.

Thank you for the recommendation, I'm downloading right now to try it out! I'll let you know how it goes once I know.

Theres not any documentation on zarx264gui, except whats in the avtech guide, though thats outdated.Kionon wrote:Be sure to read the documentation.
I think it doesn't really need documentation though. Just know that adjusting the quantizer also adjusts the quality/filesize.

Until proven otherwise, I assume that people starting off using Super need as much information as possible. The documentation I was refering to was what is in the avtech guide, outdated or not.

Thank you so much--I got it down to only 36 MB or so and still in wonderful quality! I really appreciate the help and sorry for asking such a silly and simple question. I've read the AV tech guide actually, but it was a long time ago...
