Check out this freeware.

Or check out some of the many other downloads available from PC World. They have a lot of free and shareware utilities for almost anything you want to do on your computer.

You know, you could hunt down the most recent previous version of dBPowerAMP that doesn't have the restriction on the MP3 encoder. There are plenty of places to download it online. I really didn't see the need in updating, since the MP3 encoder relies on the Lame executables located in the main program directory. If you switch out the old version of Lame for the newest version, it works just fine. It probably doesn't matter that much, since I don't use MP3 for my personal music rips anymore, but I'd like to have the option of encoding it just in case something happens (or to do the necessary encoding for the audio stream in my videos).

Other than that, you could always use the build of LameDrop on Rarewares that uses Lame 3.96.1.

Of course, if this music isn't going to be going onto an MP3 player or some such thing that requires MP3 only, I'd suggest you go for Ogg Vorbis or AAC/MP4.

It worked fine for me until it started detecting and removing glitches/pops that, you know, weren't actually there...

But I'm sure you can just opt not to correct those, right?

I swear by CDex. I love being able to rip straight into WAV for use in Premiere. And the MP3 encoding is real good quality too.

i'll probably get my head bitten off for this but i use RealOnePlayer to rip my audio, it's never failed me and the newer versions dont come with ad/spyware.
