Problem encoding an uncompressed AVI into xvid in vdub

Post by Rob Kenchu » Fri Mar 16, 2007 5:05 pm

Just like it says. I exported an uncompressed AVI out of Premiere 6.0, and every time I try to "save as AVI" using the XviD MPEG-4 Codec out of vdub, it gives me the same error:

Cannot start video compression:

An unknown error occurred (may be currupt data)
(error code -100)

It does this whether I use the AVI, or the .avs file. I've followed the EADFAG to the letter, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Maybe try re-exporting your video from Premiere?

maybe try uninstalling and getting the latest version.
make sure that you are doing 2-pass first pass instead of 2-pass second pass(some funky things can happen if you don't have a stats file from the first pass)

This is not an optimal solution, but does it still do that if you choose "Normal recompress" or "Full processing mode" as your video processing mode, instead of "Fast recompress"?

This shouldn't affect things adversely if you're encoding the uncompressed AVI straight, because that's already in RGB.

I tried all those different settings, to the same effect.

Disregard that.

It was the aspect ratio. Problem solved.
