The Lagarith Lossless Codec...

Post by Derek16438 » Tue May 27, 2008 6:41 am

Ok, so I just ripped some movies from my game, and I used the Lagarith Lossless codec to encode them with. I used the DVD2AVI application to do this. The ripping and encoding is complete, but my 3MIN movie is over 1GB!!

Is this normal!?

Yea, pretty much. Depends on the resolution of course, but definitely expect lossless files to be big, even if it's Lagarith.

Welcome to the world of pretty, lossless footage. :P

It takes a lot of space, but your end-product will look better for it. I suggest a nice external HDD if you ever start straining for disk space. 750GB drives are becoming much more reasonably priced these days. ^_^
... yea ...

Yea.

If you're working with DVD, you have a bunch of different options - you're still looking at multiple gigs per 1 DVD at the end, but you can economize during editing by using something like the bait-and-switch method.

If you're working with anything else however, you have to use lossless video unless you want your editor to crash every minute and/or quality problems.
