MKV to AVI, Filesize after conversion in VD

Post by AceD » Sat Oct 18, 2008 4:47 pm

title pretty much sums it up! i dont have a problem converting it, its the sizes after. Ive done it like this for a while...but the huge size are kinda annoying

anyway to change it to a more reasonable size?

example - 1.5gig for 24 second footage atm

I'll assume you're converting to an uncompressed format to edit with? If so, get used to extravagant file sizes. It's part of the business.

I would also suggest compressing with Huffyuv or Lagarith to decrease the file size some. Both are lossless codecs. Since I was bored, I just tested creating a 24 second clip out of that episode, and Huffyuv compressed to 250MB and Lagarith compressed to 126MB. Still large, but not like uncompressed.

On another note, you might also resize the show to something smaller, like 848x480. That file is a 720p file (1280x720), so downscaling will help shrink the file size.
... yea ...

alryt cheers, Largarith did the trick.

and ye its for editing, been trying out premiere and learning for a few months, ive ignored the size up to know because ive got over 3TB of diskspace, but its abit unrealistic to keep going at 1.5gig a pop :P
