Toshiba laptop with Cell processor...

Post by Pwolf » Wed Jul 16, 2008 2:30 pm

According this article:

http://www.hothardware.com/News/Toshiba ... ed_Laptop/

This new laptop is utilizing a cell processor for multimedia based applications. It specifically mentions encoding video:
If you’re into home video editing you know how long it can take to process those big files before your masterpiece is ready—sometimes over an hour to convert a typical 1GB movie. But with the powerful new Toshiba Quad Core HD Processor, transcoding can take as little time as ten minutes. You’ll be finished so fast they’ll be raving for a sequel.
I wondering how this might help the future of video editing in general. I wish i could get my hands on that laptop and test it >.>

Correction:

The article is erroneous... it's not a Cell processor. None-the-less I still wonder how it would help.

Looks interesting and especially for the price. I too would also want to see how much of a benefit and what software would use it.
