Win7 x64 + PCI Express Card + External HD = Doesn't Work

Hey there,

I use a pci express card (with 2 FireWire slots) on my laptop and an external harddrive with Firewire. Well at least I try... Windows 7 Ultimate x64 manages to recognize my external drive, but after copying some bigger files the data transfer speed dops to zero and I can't abort the copying process. So it's more or less stuck until I unplug my drive.

My FireWire interface consists of this PCI express card:

I know that the FireWire of the drive works, because I also tested it on my old computer (XP x86 SP2) who has built in FireWire. When I tested the card with Vista x86 I had the same issues. I also tried a different pci express card and got the same result.

What's wrong and how can I fix it?

Somewhere else a poster suggested to switch to the older "Legacy" driver for my pci express card. I tried it and also tried another one. I always got the same result. Though Legacy gives me a boost of 60MB/s before the Transfer breaks down.

my guess would be

it's the fault of your 64bit version of win7
why do you have 64bit anyway?
do you have more then 4gig RAM in it, i really doubt it!!!

Ich hatte mal ein 64bit XP und ungefähr 50% der software/treiber/etc ging nicht richtig (manche treiber gabs nicht einmal für 64bit)
Der einzige Grund bei Win7 auf 64bit zu steigen ist wenn du mehr als 4gig RAM hast da die 32bit version 4gig unterstützt.

Naja ne neuinstallation (wenn du sie madchen würdest) und alles wäre kosten/zeitaufwändig also schau mal ob du vlt mit deinen treibern waas richten kannst.
Vlt brauchst du für deine Festplatte, PCI Karte einfach 64bit Treiber.

So mehr fällt mir dazu nicht ein. Am besten an jemanden wenden der sich besser als ich auskennt

Weil ich ein Tech-freak bin in gewisser Weise. Deshalb will ich auch 64 bit Betriebssystem. Äußerst nützlich beim Emulieren von Playstation 2 und GameCube Spielen. Zu sagen, dass sich 64bit nur für RAM etwas bringen stimmt so nicht. Natürlich ist die Leistung von x86 zu x64 System nicht doppelt so stark und schnell.

Die Zeiten ändern sich. Damals musste man bei 64bit XP etwas als Entwickler zahlen um an gewisse Teile des Systems ranzukommen. Bei der x86 Version war das teilweise nicht so.

Why should I switch to x86 Win7 when it isn't even working on x86 Vista? The stuff with the drivers: I already provided every suggested driver by Windows and even tried a commercial one (demo version).
