Desknote is a brand of laptop. That is all, nothing more nothing less :p. Some laptop models will vary because of the material they are built out of & their general durability. Such as a Dell Inspiron is made out of cheaper more flimsy plastic vs a Dell Lattitude which is better put together, has a longer warranty, is aimed at business users & costs more.

Most companies sub-contract out to laptop makers like Sager. Sager builds the designs based on what the companies want. Sager also sells laptops themselves. They are not equal to the ones you would find from a major vendor, even though the major vendors contract out through Sager & this other company that I forget the name of :P. Some websites will mis-inform you. Just because Dell uses Sager, doesn't mean a Sager branded laptop is as good as a Dell branded laptop.

The usual battery life now adays is three hours. Some give you more, some give you less. Three hours is rather typical. For specific models you'll have to find a review.

batteries these days range from 4 hrs to 8 hrs tops for the more powerful types

also PCs are made cheap because theyre MUCH easier to build and design...laptops are small...virtually unupgradeable and are compact and organized in specific ways in order to keep volume low and promote air flow...

third parts usch as HDs and other things are shrunk using newer harder to produce technologies too sometimes.

funally the thin ACL monitors are always expensive to produce as well.

i hate dell too, but im running a dell dimension 4550 rite now<--with must of the parts upgraded and/or switched out from the original

dell... yeah they are basically a prebuilt computer and u can choose to basically add more value to the machine by ramming more junk into it... i meant like a site where the laptop has a screen and functional parts but is like hollow i went to http://www.newgenpc.com and it basically has computers like that; but thats like the only site i found...

Is this the kind of site you're looking for ?
http://www.pcclub.com/systems_notebooks.cfm

Compaq (HP) is set up the same way that Dell is for configuring laptops - if you prefer to avoid Dell.

I know half a dozen people with different models of Dell Inspirons, so I wouldn't mind having one myself. Except that Dell's constantly changing prices drive me crazy.

BTW, my laptop is one of those Averatech mini's (12") that I bought barely-used from a friend. They're nice machines, very small and light, but I don't think I can recommend them. Mine has a knack for randomly rebooting; aka crashing to full blue screen.
