What is the best Video Capturing Device.

Post by -Zither- » Sun Oct 03, 2004 5:36 pm

I use Windows Movie Maker and it says i need a Video Capturing device. What is the best and cheapest i can get? At like a local store. (like, Walmart, Office max, Best buy Etc.) Can u help me the best way you can. Also a good web site to get one. Unless there is a different way i can capture video with a device and u can tell me that will be better.

The DVD drive on your computer will work just fine.

Use DVD Decrypter to "Rip" the DVD and "capture the footage"

:!: No harm is done to the DVD during the "Ripping" process :!:

DVD Decrypter is found here----> http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

Also read the guides----> http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/ They will help you learn what to do with the .VOB files once you have them on your harddrive.

Well thats the best way to capture footage that I know. Also most Walmarts dont carry PCI Capture Cards but, they do carry DVD ROM drives :)

Don't forget this page: http://www.aquilinestudios.org/wmm2guide.html.

The "best" capture device is not something you're going to find at a local store. The Canopus ADVC-100 is very good and I know from experience that it works with Movie Maker 2. But it goes for about $250 (order from newegg.com).

If you have a miniDV or Digital 8 camcorder in the house, you might be able to use that...maybe.

More about capture devices for Movie Maker here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/usin ... uary4.mspx.

It's difficult to express Best and Cheap when you're refering to video editing systems since it can be subjective depending on emphasis on best or cheap. But yeah, the DVD drive I guess would be the cheapest good quality capturing device.

I'd say Pinnacle Studios 7,8 or 9. It isn't so expencive, because you get a great editing software and a great capturing device in a same packet. It costs about 99€, so that is almost same in dollars.

Think about this

Oh sry, I think I misundestood. So do you want to capture from camcorder? Tell me if I got that wrong. But if you meant to capture from DVD, then all you need is AutoGordianKnot and DVDDecryper.

Then you want a DVD drive with a DVD ripping program found here:

DVD Decryptor

It's free and does a good job. I would suggest you give the guides a read before you do anything though.
