Capturing Gameplay..

I'd like some tips on how to get started with Capturing Gameplay from games.. I'll list what I have any maybe someone can give me tips on the cheapest yet best things I can get at a local, radioshack, bestbuy, wallmart, or circuitcity...

HDMI/DVI IN
PC IN for audio and monitor
Component in "Red, White, and Red"
Video
S-Video

what I'm trying to capture from is a ps3..

I didn't know what to list that my hdtv has that you might need.. but I'm not looking for a hd type capture.. but a decent capture.. you know nothing blurry, good audio blah blah...
I'm not a pro at this that's why I'm here to try and get info on this subject.. if anyone needs anymore info on like my computer or anything I'll be glad to let you know.. ^_^.. and thanks!

I am not looking for this.. as I am trying to rip from the ps3 system and like I stated gameplay, which this sticky is about fmvs and pss... O,o.. if you can send me to the direct place that it talks about what I said I'd be very greatful.. ^_^

exactly what I need.. ^_^ I'm not sure what would be good to get for what I'm trying to do.. I'm not sure if I may can do it without buying anything expensive..
(like maybe I can do something with my hdtv.. again I'm very new at this capturing thing)
I'm just looking for pointers in the right directing as to what I should buy that isn't too expensive and that does good quality.. ^_^.. I don't have a video capturing device for my computer either.. which from what I read you can use a variety of stuff from boxes to tv tuner type stuff.. if I'm not mistakin that is.. ^_^

.. As of February 2009, ALL TV SIGNAL's will be ATSC. this is actually a good time to buy things on-the-cheap-side while everyone is "dumping" the old stuff.

. when it comes to Video, USB is NOT your friend

[ Direct Capture is best. ]

Built-in Copy Guard switch?.. what is that.. I don't want anything that might not let me copy.. remember all I'll be copying video from are games ^_^.. so should I be fine? (sorry but I'm new at this)
also it just uses the RCA cables.. so you just plug in everything in the back of the V-stream and it's ok to go.. ?!!.. ^_^
oh and where did you exactly find this for 29.95? I looked on google and nothing like that showed up for that cheap.. O,o I must know! ~^.^~ and thanks!

.. we have a few second hand stores in Minnesota and Discount Wharehouse in Brooklyn Center has tons of old ATI-AIW's plus many others .. VS-883DV-Pro $29.95 ( I've got the box right in front of me. actually, any Conexant 10-bit chip will do the job and it is quite common .. Kworld DVD Maker uses it too, $29.95 VS-L883D this requires a 1gig processor.

.. As of February 2009, ALL TV SIGNAL's will be ATSC .. the FCC has not set the Standards yet, but the Court System "has said that ALL TV Signals will comply with the new standard by Feb 2009"

.. I only brought up the copy guard thing because PS3's might have such a signal in their videos. Yes, one RCA cable is all you need to Capture the Video

well, if you're game has a PC equivalent, camtasia is much more flexible and uses a faster codec then fraps (means higher fps options, as much as 29.97 fps some times)

but the posts above suggest you're trying to record console games... which IMO needs to have a really good reason to do, since it sounds like theres lots that could go wrong
