i know exactly how you feel. its a painful experience. but occasionaly (as in, extremely rarely) ya get a total n00b that reads the guides and asks something thats not in them. its a rare and amazing feeling
Man I can't wait for that day. It should be a great expierience. But I mean - c'mon...dvd ripping. That was the simplest part in the guide I read. Except for maybe something like: "Open the file". And then someone reccomends a costy program for it...and it's completely free! What in the hell is wrong with the world today?
DVD ripping. To hell with that. By the end of getting the hang of it, I was like 'FUCK AVISYNTH! FUCK IT RIGHT IN IT'S GIVING ME A FUCKEN ERROR MESSAGE ASS!'

So I just opened up the DVD, copied the vob files, and changed the extension to mpeg. It's a lot faster, ya know?

What did you rip the dvd with?

There are some programs (DVD-to-avi for instance) rip the dvd and compress the footage into very small avi files - some using outdated 'video 1' codecs that won't open in VirtualDub and may not open in the editing program you want to use. These programs as a rule aren't worth using - the quality loss alone defeats the purpose of ripping the dvd (you might as well have downloaded the footage).

Get DVDDecryptor and read up the guides (the other posts in this thread have linked to the guide - more than once). DVDDecryptor will copy the dvd information, and you can filter it through DVD-to-AVI and Avisynth to open it in VirtualDub (the main place you'd use to save your avi clips - in huffyuv format). This also lets you use direct avs editing if you're a Premiere user - the guides outline this.
