I think I've found the FFXII fmvs...
...but they all seem to be in .swf format. No .mpg-type files found by Extractor at all, only these .swf files and a few .form files. Nothing happens when I try opening the .swf files themselves, just an error message from the player or nothing at all. Since I know that .swf files can contain other files within them, I'm guessing that the .swf's just a container for the video. So my question is this: how does one extract the content from a .swf file?
Thanks for the help!

isn't .swf a shockwave flash file?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.swf
in which case you should be able to play it with your internet browser (if it has a flash plugin...most do)
the other option is to play it in adobe flash player
not sure if there are any methods out there for converting .swf video.
you might have to capture it with a program like fraps

Problem is, the .swf files won't play at all, even in a flash player. That's why I think they're either protected or being used as containers for the actual video files. I've downloaded a few .swf tools so we'll see if those work. Extractor finds enough of the .swf files - nearly 20 of them - that it's a definite possibility that they could be the videos. Plus, the .swf files are large enough to be or hold video data - perhaps more than one per file. So unless someone knows how to rip the actual .pss files, I think this is where they are.

1st question
-why is it that Nova extractor finds a different number of swf's everytime I scan? One time I got 17 results, and the next time I got under 10. Then after that, I got 14.
2nd question
How is it that Nova Extractor ended up extracting a number of swf files that totaled up to be several times larger than the FFXII iso itself? (11 gigs in size to be exact.)
It's a good start though. Good luck with trying to do anything with those swf's though. You could be headed in the right direction, or you could be headed no where with this. But at least it's a start.
Thanks for the heads up.

i think i figured out how to "extract" the video files (spent that last 4 hours or so working on it). only problem at this point is that the data is organized differently then other pss files (and thats assuming its the same pss format as other ps2 games. it could be a different container). in other words i can't play it back. and all that could just mean that 1) i am looking at the wrong data or 2) there is missing header information. if i can get a copy of the Japanese release and get ffxii2mov to work with that, i might be able to figure out how to do it with the US version.

Imagine how many copies of WC3 and TFT you could've bought in that time.Pwolf wrote:(spent that last 4 hours or so working on it)

well, ffxii2mov isn't working on the japanese copy i got, so i don't really have any ideas on what to do atm. this would be a lot easier if i had the source code >.>
according to some sources i've found, there are supposed to be 39 video files totaling about 2gb.
i'm going to play with some other games/rippers and see how they interact with the raw data on the game disks. then see if i can use that to help me with ffxii.
