Gankutsuou - unrippable?

Post by shrink_laureate » Thu Apr 19, 2007 4:59 am

I've had some very strange things happen with DVDs of Gankutsuou / The Count of Monte Christo. Even though they play perfectly (and are beautiful) every piece of ripping software I've tried has choked on them. Other people have also had no luck on different machines and with different software.

Did they implement some strange new copy protection on these discs? Or do I just have duds?

Have you tried DVDFab Decrypter?

I've also had difficulty with this series. DVDDecrypter successfully ripped all of volume one for me (and parts of several others, I beleive), but when I later tried to rip volume six, which contains the final episodes and is therefore very important, I tried several decrypters and they produced a garbled mess on every conceiveable setting.

Programs that don't work on disk 6:
DVDDecrypter
DVD FAB Decrypter 3
(I think I tried one more but I forget what it was)

If I have time at some later date I hope to test all the DVDs systematically so that I can at least find exactly what doesn't work.

RipIt4Me may be better to use if you end up with garbled video since it has the ability to correct and remove the crap the companies are putting into the DVD structure as copy protection. Google for "RipIt4Me 1.7". It uses DVD Decrypter as a component, which you already have installed. Version 1.7 doesn't require FixVTS like previous versions did since it seems to be integrated now.

RipIt4Me is what I would suggest as well.

thanks :D ! RipIt4Me worked on volume six, which I've been trying to rip unsuccessfully for three months.

Alright, rather than make a new thread, I figured I might as well use this one.

I've recently been trying to rip Gankutsuou, specifically disc six, and even after trying RipIt4Me haven't been able to get anything of use.
