*DO* make sure you pick DVD9 and not DVD5 when you rip, if that's when you have the issue.

I use Freez DVD Ripper (you can find it here if you want). I don't need HQ videos and I'm very satisfied with this software, it's fast, free and enables you to convert your videos directly in mpeg2.

I use my brain (unlike seemingly everyone else in this thread) and use DVD Decrypter, and in the odd event that it fails, either DVD Fab or some magic shit that works every time.
