Can someone check out this extractor out for me?
http://videoff7.free.fr/ffxii2mov_1.01.zip

Its English, but it doesn't work with my Collector's edition of FFXII. I want to know if it works with the normal edition.

Arkada, congrats. what you have found is an extractor that works properly for the Japanese version. I just tested it myself and works perfectly. I was actually trying to find this version of the extractor awhile back, but the one and only link I came across was down. So great job for finding it for me. I appreciate it.

Now before I say anything else, I must admit that I too own the special edition of this game and haven't tried this with the normal version. So with that in mind, I stand wide open for correction with anything I state below.

Unfortnately, as I've stated before, this only appears to be a translated version of the program that didn't work well in the first place. Anyways, I tried testing it with this english version, but I didn't have any success either. Apparently, the program factors in the DVD's exact file size to determine whether or not or not, the right DVD is being scanned. And since the english version of FFXII is roughly a few mb larger than the japanese version, the program refuses to scan the dvd. (hence why I get the "wrong disk" error.)

There is a potential solution though to at least trick the program into thinking it's scanning the japanese version.

Figure out the exact difference in the file sizes of each game down to the last byte just to be on the safe side.
Then make an iso image of the game.
Using a hex editor, edit out the difference in mb in the english version, then export it.
Load the editted iso image into a program called Daemon tools and have ffxiimov scan it. If done correctly, the program should start to extract stuff from the english version.

The hard part is actually trying to figure out where exactly to edit out the several mb of extra data between the english and japanese versions. Because otherwise, ffxiimov won't extract the fmv's correctly.

Anyways, that's about it. This is a big step in the right direction. Hopefully someone with the normal version can and tell us whether this program works for it or not. Or maybe someone with the right skills can use this program to make an extractor that actually works properly for the english version.

btw, here's the exact file sizes of each version in bytes
English version:
4,066,508,800

Japanese version:
4,032,266,240

hey guys. I just contacted the author of the english version to ffxii2mov. Here's what he had to say:
Hey Sayde,
I just resshacked the japanese ffxii2mov to make it dispay english language but have no knowledge whatsoever of the code that makes it work, and so cannot make a version for FFXII USA version.
The only person that could help is the Japanese author of the app, Fao, whom you can contact here :

Later,

Alcahest
So it looks like I was right all along and it won't work for the english version. At least not intially. That's all for now guys.

I tried the Hex Editor method with no luck on my end.

But luckily for me I got a hold of the Jap Version so now it works fine.

I'm glad I could help

I have about 10 saves near the longer cut scene and FMV sequences for FFXii , if there is a demand for FMV's I can simply record them.

I've actually started my own little project. I'm playing through the game again trying to record just the audio from all the fmvs with any kind of english vocal dialogue. Then I'll just edit the recorded wav files and then multiplex them back to the video stream to create my own .pss files. It's about time someone took the initiative and got the english version of the fmvs one way or another. The sound quality of the recorded footage actually seems just fine even though it may not have been ripped from the dvd itself. So it really should'nt matter once it's all said and done.

btw, I meant I'd multiplex the recorded audio from the english version of the game back to the video streams to the japanese version. Since SE neglected to resynch the mouth movements to the english audio, it'll all be the same once I'm done.
