Extracting a voice track from a DVD?

Post by Rosie-chan » Thu Aug 19, 2004 10:52 pm

This isn't so much a how-to question as a "is it possible?" question.

I want to mix one character's line of diologue into the background of the song I'm using, because that one line of diologue more or less expresses the theme of the video I want to make. (The DVD in question is the R1 Sailor Moon R movie as released by Pioneer/Gennon.) I'm wondering if the music sountrack (which would sound very bad if mixed in alongside) and the voice track (Japaneese) can be seperated or if the dialogue and music are mixed onto the same track. (If they're mixed, it would probably be easier for me to find someone who could act that one line and record it.)

There are only two audio tracks; English and Japanese. Each one has the dialogue and music mixed together.

Unless you've got something like a 5.1 surround-sound audio track, you're usually shit outta luck with isolating just the dialogue, and even then you're not guaranteed for a dialogue-only section. In the case of this movie, the English track is the standard 2.0 stereo, and the Japanese is the original mono track.

Your best bet is probably just to capture that one bit of audio you want and mess with the volume levels and such to see what you can do with it.
