Is there a way to rip songs from a protected CD?

Post by megaman917 » Sun Aug 21, 2005 1:55 pm

I have a protected CD and I can't rip it, or even play it on my PC. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to use Windows Media Player? I know it's not the best option, but you can get songs out of it (I'm taking about protected ones, or at least I think so) and it also allows you to choose the format .wma/.mp3/.wav

Anyway, As far as protected CD's concern, that's all I can think of :?

Whats the cd? Try holding shift as you put it in your comp, so autostart is disabled. If that doesnt work, try geting a bootable linux, then find a riping tool on that.

It's promo cd from BGM Distribution. It's an in-store play sampler.
I tried Windows Media Player and Dell Jukebox by Musicmatch, which came with my pc. My pc wont play or even read the cd. I think I'm gonna search for the songs I want elsewhere. I don't want to go through all that trouble just to rip like about 3 or 4 songs. Thank you guys for the help though. 8-)

have you tried using Cdex? I think that the current version is 1.51. Just load up the program first and then insert the cd. If that doesn't work there are a lot of cd rippers out there (EAC is another example). Give them a try

CDex is a great program. But I'm curious about something. Will your CD play in a regular CD player? Is it protected, or is it actually some weird format that a computer won't even read? Being an in-store sampler, this might be a possibility, I guess it depends on how it was played in the store. Just a thought.
