DVD Decrypter/Img Burn Trouble Shooting

Post by The Legendary Robanian » Thu Aug 09, 2007 2:45 pm

Up until yesterday I was having no problems with DVD Decrypter. I've only been using it on Vista for about 3 weeks now, and I don't have much know how about trouble shooting with a new OS. For some reason DVD Decrypter becomes unstable and now will either not detect my DVD-RW or is unable to dectect the media within it. Then upon trying to close it, DVD Decrypter freezes and reads "Closing Auto Interface Thread" (which is a new "trick"), and it refuses to close, whether through trying to end the process through task manager and/or deleting/moving the .exe. At that point my PC becomes slow and sluggish and logging in and out takes a unimagniable amount of time. I've already tried tweaking with it some, re-installing twice, and even gave Img Burn a shot, but had the same problems exactly. So if anyone has any ideas or tips on trouble shooting what so ever, your help would be much abliged.

well, so far it's been every DVD I've put in there. Burned, movies, and a number of anime (region 1 and 2 {a few of which I've already ripped to my computer } ),so i'm convinced it's not the dvd(s) but something else.

ImgBurn is just a burning app - it doesn't decrypt things.

As for using Vista, I read about the ripping options available for it a little, and I know for certain that DVDFab works.

Go check Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Administrative Tools\Computer Management

Once there, go check Event Viewer->Windows Logs->System. If you see any errors or warnings there relating to hardware, then you're in for some crazy internet searching . I suspect you must be receiving that "Delayed Paging Operation has caused an error for device CDRom0"...or something similar.

I corrected this issue once but by disabling some hardware when people told me to refresh my secondary IDE bus :P. First i thought, it was your DVD Decrypter Settings or the SPTI messing up but since you're having trouble in all the programs then it must be hardware related.

Well, sure enough that is indeed the problem. Now...at this point I'm somewhat lacking in direction. If this was my old computer (or if I had the money to go and do as I please with this one), I would be more than happy to tinker with it tediously for hours on end, but I don't feel quite as confident with my hardly broken in PC :( . So, if you have any mildly specific tips or a shove onto the right track to solving this problem that'd be great. (b/c I'd really enjoy getting back to editing :D )

Glad to know you figured out the problem. Well what i did to correct this issue was to remove all faulty drivers in my system related to CD/DVD burning/emulation. This includes tools like DAEMON tools, Nero, Ashampoo etc. This somehow took away that error but I still could not write CDs or DVDs. Then I moved into check on my computer and disabled the hardware that was not being used and that was two things:

Parallel port: Since it is not used these days. Its IRQ can cause a conflict with many a hardware.
Network Adaptors/Modems: I don't use my modem and seconday Ethernet Adaptor and disabled them permanently.

After doing the above steps and restarting my PC. The problem was gone. No more errors or warnings and I could read/write all I wanted. Oh and more thing, if you can't seem to disable your parallel port through the bios or the device manager, then you can do so through registry. Its located here.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Parport

I hope this will certainly fix the issue. The truth is, this is a hardware IRQ conflict that is very common in windows after WinXP. If nothing helps, a clean format of the OS always helps :D...kidding.

Well, right off the bat from reading just now, I can say w/o a doubt that my XPS 410 here, doesn't have a parallel port (otherwise I could be running programs for work from my labtop), and I'm sure I only have one Ethernet Adaptor (which is currently in use). In addition to that I ran a search for the faulty drivers you mentioned. And nothing what so ever came up. :? First I tried the names specifically, then went and searched under ".sys" and still couldn't find a trace of any of them. And finally at this point, I almost feel worse off than before, b/c now I know what the problem is, and as usaul, normal troubleshooting seems not to apply.

hmm, thats bad. The error is known as "Error Event ID 51" in Windows terms and may have a dozen solutions to it on the internet. I don't remember all of them but you can search around the internet.
