Round 2: Fluffy Kittens & Rainbows

Post by Kireblue » Sat Jun 25, 2016 12:06 pm

Besides every great anime character is an even greater mascot character. That's how that saying goes right? And although they aren't usually at the center of attention, they still contribute to the story in their own special way. Whether its Pikachu from Pokemon, Kyubey from Madoka, or Kon from Bleach; these characters are known by people that aren't even familiar with the anime. And often times, they become the most iconic and recognizable figures of their respective franchises.

Round Challenge
For round 2, you will be creating a character profile AMV that centers around the mascot of an anime series. Please note that your chosen mascot character should be the main focus of the video, and showing it for just a scene or two will not be enough to satisfy the theme. Lists of popular mascot characters can be found here: *Crunchyroll: Top 20 Cutest Mascot Characters, *MAL: Top 10 Cute Animals & Mascots, *ANN: Favorite Mascots, *Sporcle Anime Collage, *Anime Yume: Top 10 Animal Mascots. These lists are by no means comprehensive, and you are free to pick mascot characters that aren't mentioned.

Round 2 Deadline:
Sunday, July 3rd @ 11:59PM EST

Submitting Your Video:
When finished, please upload your video to a reputable file sharing service and send the download link to me via a private message here on animemusicvideos.org. The body of your message should also include the name of your mascot character, and the title of your video. Google Drive and Dropbox are the preferred methods of uploading your video, but please ensure that the URL you send is a “shared” or “public” link. Sendspace is not recommended due to a daily download limit that it imposes. Note: Youtube or ”streaming only” links will not be accepted. You do not have to wait until the final day to submit your video. You are also free to publicly share and upload your videos before the deadline. Just be aware that doing so may help your opponents. If you finish early and feel that your video does not need anymore tweaking, you may submit it at any time before Sunday, July 3rd @ 11:59PM EST. At the end of each round, all the submitted videos will be made available to the public to stream on google drive. If you would like the download option to be disabled on your video and to only allow it to be streamed, please add this request to the body of your submission message. By default, all videos will be made available for download unless the editor specifically requests that it doesn't. Editors also have the option to request that one of their videos be completely unavailable to the public, and only the judges will be able to view it. This option is only available during the preliminary rounds, can only be used once, and can not be changed to a different video (even if the editor chooses to remove the restriction on the previous one).

I would put this in my stupid "First!" post but I don't know how to edit posts, if it is possible. Anyway...

Can a participant use an AMV he uploaded weeks/months earlier or not ?
no. All videos need to be tailored to match the round's theme and created during that week. Submitting previously released videos will result in a disqualification and a ban from future rounds of the competition.
Could you please specify what does and doesn't count as reusing previously released videos? Half a year ago, I created a 30-second video that would match this round well, but I did not adhere to quality footage then. Would making a new AMV that was, say, about five times longer and had differently organized, higher-quality footage (but the same song, in full this time) count as submitting a previously released video? I can add further detail here or in a PM if need be.

I realize the chances are quite low of this being accepted but this is my first time in a competition - I'm exploring my options and would appreciate further clarification. Thanks. ^_^

Since you only edited part of the song, and you're remaking the entire video from scratch, its perfectly acceptable to enter the new version  .

because the ability to send PMs is only activated once your very first post is approved. This helps prevent spambots from messaging everyone about discounted Viagra  . But your account is now approved

I thank you very much for the lenience, I was surprised you allowed that. However, I decided that attempting that would still be encroaching upon violating the spirit of the competition, and plus, I realized it would be too boring to expand on something I'd already made. I've looked and found at least one song that should match my concept pretty well. Considering that I haven't even started yet though, chances are I'm not going to output too good of a video or even a video at all, if my procrastination continues.
