Purple Stuff!!!
Hi all.
I need some help with finalizing my AMV.
I have ripped files from DVD. Used AviSynth and exported with HUFFYUV.
Everything is perfect so far. The HUFFYUV plays perfect. The problem comes when I covert the HUFFYUV into DivX. I get weird purple marks in two areas in my AMV. They are in the same place every time. I have tried different settings in both 1 pass and 2 pass methods. Nothing seems to get rid of these marks. Come someone tell my what is causing it.
P.S. The place where it happens are darker areas and both marks are in the middle of a fade transition. Also I'm using VirtualDub 1.4.11 to covert with. Hope that helps with a solution.

Ok, the source is 720x480. I'm resizing to 512x342 in VirtualDub under the divx menu. Here is a screen shot. I had to take it from Premiere so it looks like s__t but you can see the purple stuff at the bottom.

OK, that's why.
512 is a multiple of 16 but 342 isn't - codecs like divx and mpeg work best when the resolutions are multiples of 16 - otherwise things like this happen. Divx can handle multiples of 8, but this isnt even a multiple of 8, which is why you get the error.
I'd use 512 x 384 for your video or 480x352 as that's a very compressable resolution.

Wow thank you
That worked great 512x384 and 512x352.
I read something about keeping the res. div by 16 and 8 but I guess I forgot about that when I was making my vid.
Thank you very much for your help.

Right on the head. However, I noticed you're ripping the Ah Megami-sama movie. That film is in anamorphic widescreen, so to render it without the letterboxed area and to keep everyone from looking like toothpicks, you'd want to use the resolution 512x288. Both are valid aspects and confine perfectly to a 16:9 ratio.
