Masking in After Effects

Post by Wyverex » Tue Jul 01, 2003 12:54 pm

Hey all,

I have this little problem using AE : if I use a feathered mask on a colorama effect, the mask acts on the source clip and the colorama effect cancel the feather option. How can I tell the mask to act on the rendered clip?

Here's the problem, this should be feathered (like the second pic) :

I managed to do this by putting the background image foreground and using an inverted mask on it but, believe me, this is not very funny to do... :

Thanks.

Make a new composition, pull in the previous composition (which contains the rendered clip), and make the mask on the nested composition. Put the background clip in the new composition behind/below the old instead of in the first one...

Thanks a lot for the "composition in composition" trick ^^.

No problem. It's kind of not intuitive that you can do it, but there are some things that only really work when you use nested compositions.

=\ I want nested comps in Premiere, instead we get this "Virtual Clip" BS :x

Actually Premiere's interface and structure doesn't facilitate that really=\.

I think I crashed Premiere once by somehow infinite looping the virtual clips...

Sorry, I'm not impressed... I crash Premiere just by looking at it wrong.... and I only wish I was kidding.... :?
