FlasK MPEG Data Error

Post by TennyoKitsune » Wed Aug 27, 2003 4:16 am

For some reason, (and this just started recently) FlasK MPEG (My DVD footage converter) has begun to state that there's a problem with converting my DVD movie footage, something about the data stream being too small. It's done fine in the past up until now, I don't know if it's the DVD footage or not, but unless I can get it working again, I won't be able to capture anymore footage to edit for my video.

Any idea what might be causing such an error?

Or better yet, does anyone know of another converter that takes .vob files and turns them into MPEG format?

>_> ~ ~ ~ ~ *x_X Read guides!!

Don't use FlaskMPEG, flask = bad. Editing with MPEG = bad.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm EXTREMELY NEW to the BBS, I haven't had TIME to search for and read all the guides.

Further more, Editing with the type of video format I have, is one of the ONLY options I've got, the type of video editors I use are particularly picky about what formats are edited in them.

I asked a simple question for a SOLUTION to a problem, not a snipe at me for using a certain program.

No it's not -- if you properly index the MPEG it works just fine. Heck, when you load a DVD2AVI project file into AVISynth that's exactly what you're doing...

You got a solution.

.vob files are just containers. There's an MPEG-2 video stream sitting in them, as well as some other stuff (audio streams, subtitle data, etc) that you usually don't need for AMVs.

The best way to do it on Windows systems is to index the VOB using DVD2AVI and use AVISynth to open that index file, and then use your video editing program to open up that AVISynth file. The guides do show how this is all done, as well as a bunch of other methods.

I don't think you'll find much help in the way of FlaskMPEG here, as a lot of people deem it to be inferior to other programs, and have thus stopped using it.

Hush j00!

Rarely is a MPEG1 stream indexed properly. Rarely is a 'MPEG4' stream indexed properly. MPEG2 streams can be indexed via DVD2AVI, correct. Maybe I should have said "Don't use DivX.". Which is what FlaskMPEG does. They also specifically state that they are converting the footage to MPEG.

Going from MPEG2 ---> MPEG4 ----> video editor ---> MPEG4 = NO!

I feel I am turning in to post-it almost...

Do what Trythil said, which is what the guides say. Which there is a link in my sig right there that says "-=AMV Guides=-". It pretty much explains a bunch of stuff and tells you why what you're doing is wrong.

But if it works for you, go for it. But it's broken and not too many people use that method. Not enough to help fix your error.

Thanks a ton for this info. It helped me a lot. I've hence gotten rid of FlasKMPEG and moved into AVISynth, but I still have a problem, I have no idea how to install the MPEG2DEC.dll plugin into it. I've been looking for information on where exactly I'm supposed to put it, but I haven't come up with anything that even remotely helps. Any idea if you can help me figure out exactly where I'm supposed to extract this file to?

Technically, you can put it anywhere; you'd just have to load it with

Import("absolute path to plugin")

AVISynth 2.05 and later, however, will auto-load plugins in a given directory. It's in the Registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\AVISynth. Add a key called "PluginDir" and set the value to whereever you want the auto-load directory to be. Then dump the MPEG-2 decoder library in there.

The AMVapp does all this for you.

So Basically, installing AMVApp with it's plugin mod is all I really have to do in order to have the MPEG2DEC.dll installed? I've installed AMVApp and it's plugin already, but I think I have to look into more detail on how to apply the MPEG2DEC.dll.

Nevermind. I'm a complete dunce. I just looked over the information you gave me again and stared at it for a good while, then looked in the AMVApp directory and found all the programs I'd need right there...

Errr. My name is Kitsune, and I'm half asleep. X_X gomen nasai Sempai.

Pretty much.

The MPEG-2 plugin won't read raw MPEG-2 streams. It accepts DVD2AVI project files, so you'll have to load VOBs into DVD2AVI first, generate a project file, and then load that project file.

MPEG2Dec("path to project file")

and then there's all kinds of things you can do to it to clean it up.
