If you are just getting started in making videos, you are probably well off starting with Windows Movie Maker. It is somewhat limiting, but it works just fine for getting the feel of what it's like to put audio and video together, and it's quite possible to make a decent AMV with it. In terms of technical capabilities it is somewhat lacking compared to programs like Premiere and the likes, but when getting started I'm a firm believer that this is a good thing. Before you buy something like Adobe Premiere, which would generally be the next progression (or Vegas, which I've heard several people praise lately), you'd probably do well to download the demo version to try it out with. At least Adobe's (the last time I checked) was good for a month, which should be enough time to try it out and get a feel for whether you like it or would rather try something else out.

I've used adobe, vegas, and windows movie maker. All I have to say is get vegas, it is by far the easiest to use, and you get the best results. Although I did quite well with adobe, so I won't insult it, but it did crash on me about 30 times while making my first amv. Windows is crap in my opinion, I would not suggest it at all.

hehehe, yeah vegas does kick everything els's ass. its not just easier to use, its fast (eccept when exporting, but that beats premier crashing every few seconds) , it has alot more features, and theirs somethng about premiers grey thats just so very off puting, ew.

Insert here semi-shameless (since they're not mine) plugging of two <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... >videos made with WMM2 that I personally think are very nice.

Premiere...crashing?

WTF.

As long as you don't use DivX/XviD files in Premiere (unless frameserved in AVISynth first *hinthint*) then you should be fine. The only reason why Premiere crashes for you idiots is because you use fansubs.

Using MJPEGs, HuffYUV, or AVISynth files, Premiere crashes one out of ten runs, and that's when the program is closing anyway (IE I'm done editing.)
