Dealing with DV footage

Post by AznRAVEr1022 » Mon Jan 12, 2004 9:16 pm

ok, so i have a bunch of AVI's that came off my camcorder that are in DV format (i guess that's how you say it). I want to edit these in premiere but its super laggy so is there any way i can encode these into regular AVI files with like the huff codec? when i open it in VDub it gives me an error.

hmm, this is probably a super crappy solution compaired to using huffyUV, but you could try to encode it to a mpeg1 using an mpeg encoder.

Unfortunately, VDub won't take DirectShow codecs. And I'm not sure why Premiere would have problems with DV files. They always worked for me, back when I used Premiere.

You may be able to use Premiere to do the conversion. As long as you can get the clip on to the timeline, try selecting that section and rendering it to HuffYUV.

Vdub opens my dv's quite well. It says it's using the Panasonic DV codec. (Although I can remember it worked before I installed that as well).

That page has a link.

Alternatively, you could try making a DV project for your video. I'm not sure a DV project will allow you to export huffy (to ensure maximum quality), it will probably be a lot faster than dropping them in a 'video for windows' project.
