A problem with AVI/DivX/XviD conversion for saving to DVD?

Post by markedman247 » Fri Feb 20, 2004 2:09 am

Well, this question has probably been asked, answered, asked again, and answered again. However, I have not seen it, so I hope for some leniency if this is becoming tedious.

I recently got a DVD recorder for my computer. I am trying to archive my AMVs and eps of RedVsBlue so that I can view them and not use HD space.

Here's the problem. I am using TMPGenc (sp?) and trying to convert them into a readable format for my DVD recorder.

Some work out fine. The others end up being an audio track with no pic or "Unsupported File Type" that can't be saved.

Am I missing a Codec or something?

Media Player must be the default system because my DivX player can play these files but Media Player just gives me Audio. When I go to view the file with my Roxio DVDCreator, it does the audio with black background?

Any help will be appreciated and again I apologize if this has been a tedious topic.

If you can't see it with Windows Media Player then there is little chance of TMPGEnc being able to see it.

I had a similar problem (not the DVD bit but loss of all MPEG4 playback) when I installed the DivX player and codec a while back. In the end I had to uninstall the DivX player, deregister the codecs that were still not working, and then reinstall them (using XviD for DivX playback).

If you do that you will probably find that Windows Media Player (and TMPGEnc) can see the video again.

Instead of using the DivX player use the Zoom Player or Media Player Classic (both are free).

Also, Zoom Player has a nifty utility built in that allows you to deregister codecs - which is handy if you don't have an uninstaller for the codec and don't fancy modifying your registry.
