Codec Problem!

I'm sooo convinced that my computer hates me >_<
Both x-vid and divx are having problems - and neither of those programs have ever bugged me before...

Firstly, Xvid used to have this problem where it would go all green and not work, and i managed to fix that. But now, it freezes all the time, and the sound will never match the video.

And whenever i play a file - no matter what file, no matter what codec, no matter what player, whenever i try to resize the image, it becomes terribly pixilated, and won't adjust or render itself to become smooth again. Also, when i try to make anything full screen, the whole screen goes black, like it's preparing to make it full screen, but then it just jumps back to normal size again, no error message or anything...*cries*

please help me, before i tear all my hair out~!

when I had that problem and searched online, i found out that Divx realy hates Xvid if you install Xvid ontop of Divx. also if your using a packaged codec install (especially Nemo's) It tends to screw with Xvid. I uninstalled everything (including all Divx variant codecs like Xvid, 3vix and of course divx itself) installed Xvid first, then my other codecs, then Divx last, and it worked fine. Perhaps this will work for you.

I got rid of DivX altogether, the XviD decoder can handle DivX too.

true it can, but at the moment the Divx codec handles both of them better as far as quality is concerned.

Okay...well i tried everything you guys suggested!

Firstly, my xvid sound is fine now that i've installed that sound thing, but now the image looks really scrambled, i took a screencap!

of course, it has improved from what it used to be, but it's still unwatchable...

My divx is still pixilated, and even after installing divx after xvid, and vice versa and in a whole number of ways, nothing has changed...sigh...

So, what do you advise now? I'm very grateful for your help!

Oh my, what happened to that video? I sure hope it's not an old gmc+interlacing encode (back from the days when these options didn't work together).

As for pixelation, changing desktop colour depth from 16 to 32 bits might help.

I find the Gordian Knot Codec pack to have the best builds for my purposes. It can be found at www.doom9.org on their download page. If you choose to install it be sure to uninstall your old versions of the codecs.
