Oh my, those codecs -_-

Post by alicia_chan8 » Wed Apr 21, 2004 5:02 pm

Why can't all my codecs coexist? Since I've got XP they've nearly killed me.
Well, i just got half of my vids playing properly, and now the half that were - aren't anymore.

This is what happens to some of them...

http://img26.photobucket.com/albums/v79 ... han/IT.jpg

And if they don't do that - then they will play normally - but should i try to fast forward or rewind - they will freeze. They will only play the whole way through...

please, someone help me! before i diieeee..... this has been killing me for about 5 months now...stupid XP and codecs...

First of all, try uninstalling absolutely every codec or codec pack that you have installed.
Install this: http://athos.leffe.dnsalias.com/ffdshow-20040418.exe

Report back.

Ok! Thanks for that! I've done all you've said...
Well, I'm still pretty much where i was - except the picture is a better.

Still, when I fast forward or rewind or pause some videos *not all of them* the picture still freezes...the computer doesn't freeze - and the sound keeps going - but there is no motion in the video.

thanks for your help - i'll wait for a reply :D

Does it freeze only on MPG videos? If you let it keep going for a while will it eventually start up again?
I used to have that problem but I don't anymore... Not sure how I fixed it

oh yeah! it does freeze only on mpgs *i think* but not ALL mpgs - just some of them...
You think it'll just fix itself? I hope so, but I don't have much faith in my computer....
any other advice i should do - any codec that might help?

Get a different MPEG decoder. I use the MainConcept MPEG decoder. I just don't know where I got it offhand. Might have been in the Makostra codec pack...

MediaPlayerClassic has a build-in mpeg (1&2) decoder. Might work better.

Good luck~
