Multiple Video Streams in Matroska...

Post by Qyot27 » Thu Aug 19, 2004 2:06 pm

Alright, for the future Org release of the trailer that I just released on my website, I want to have the file able to switch between video streams inside the matroska container, since there are two different versions of the trailer that use the exact same audio stream. I was able to get both video streams into the file no prob, but when MPC plays it back, the ActiveMovie window pops up and displays the second video stream at the same time.

I've tried looking for where in MPC to change this setting, but I can't seem to find it. Is there any way to fix it so that MPC only displays one of the streams at a time but gives you the option of choosing one or the other streams (or possibly switch back and forth while the video plays)?

Or is this a problem that can only be solved with a different media player or is there a piece of software I need to install that will enable video stream switching?

That's weird.

The reviews for my DDR track, released as a Matroska file, have no comments on the fact that it is a Matroska file.

Maybe you just can't instruct and/or encode :P

That project has only two opinions submitted, what sort of baseline is that?

Realx guys. Our last pack ( 1.0.2 ) was loaded 300,000 times alltogether, it should only be a matter of time until everybody can play MKV. Dont forget the number of VLC, mplayer and Xine users also, and of course Gstreamer.

My guess is that about 1 Mio. people have the right player/filters to be able to play MKV now, and we get more and more software support, raising public awareness. However, if i were you, i would use MP4 for my releases as soon as its tools have nice subtitles support. Its no doubt the right format for content distribution in future ;) ....

There's 561 downloads on the Direct link, which is the Matroska file. The local, which is the AVI, has 266 downloads. I also provide links to functional players for many platforms. There are two possibilities here:

(1) People downloaded the necessary software (most people do read, you know) and are playing the Matroska file just fine.
(2) People are confused, but they're keeping quiet about it. Not the best choice by far, but it's still not 'OMG U SUX YUOR REVIEW GETS ALL ZEROZ'.

Theoretically. You've got a lot of active resistance (see: who replied to my post, Microsoft, etc) and passive resistance (user apathy) to deal with...

Dont worry, we are dealing fine with this 'apathy' ( lets use WMV, it plays everywhere ) since more than 4 years now, and please believe me, there were MUCH harder times for us than right now, with a quite huge user base, a lot of interest from software and especially player developers, and many high quality releases using our format ;) .....
