software for cropping specific items in video

does anyone know what software is able to crop specific items such as characters from a clip? I want to get only the character and somehow remove the background and such.

yeah, move this to video software.

and anything above wmm2 should be able to help you out... how you do it is the key,

most common is printing the anime out frame by frame . taking scissors and cutting them and then re-scanning them in the order you need.. or using an image editing program like photoshop, mspaint, gimp, etc etc etc

people actually do that? O_o

um... yeah, you can rotoscope frame by frame in photoshop if you need to do that - or if you have a moving character on a pretty much steady background you can use difference masking in after effects

Yeah, using photoshop or gimp is the easiest way to do it. Just be sure that when you save each image you name is something like image0001, image0002, image0003, etc. Put the images in a folder by themselves, for convenience. Make sure all the images are exported using the same setings. Then, if your video editor supports image sequences, just select that when searching for the file, open the firs timag and it should open all of them togeather as one file. Otherwise, open the image sequence in vdubmod and make a huffyuv avi out of it.

I just do it in AE.
