Need help with effects in adobe premiere...

Post by LadyAmarra » Mon Feb 14, 2005 6:59 am

Okay, I am quite skilled in Studio 8 and WMM but adobe premiere gives me some serious (possibly stupid in your eyes) problems. For a start I constantly get errors that shut down the program if I try to use certain files that use the DIVX coded. I have the current version of it and the other programs can compile into divx so I am not thinking that it is this one, but anyway, I can use any effects there.... they simply don't get shown.

If I compile the video afterwards they are in it but I can't time or correct them in the program for there is no way to work with them. help??

I'm going to use little words in big font, as this problem has been posted over and over again and there's one easy answer.

DON'T USE DIVX TO EDIT

Ahem.

Seriously, Just don't. Premiere doesn't like it. It looks bad. It will give you skin cancer. It will make you a terrorist. I don't care what reason you use to justify it, but just don't. Convert your video to an editable codec like HuffYUV in VirtualDub (read the 'Org guides, that's what they exist for) and edit instead.

well, thank you for pointing it out in big shiny letters!!

BUT I AM NEW HERE (at least in the forum) AND ALL EDITORS I HAD TILL NOW THREW NO TANTRUM ABOUT DIVX. Almost all my matirial needs that crap so.. sorry to have bothered you.

Oh and by the way, you can't expect for someone new to read all posts, even those 10 sides back, before considering to use this forum to ask something. So sorry to have annoyed you. OI.

But I *can* expect someone to use the Search function.

Or to read the guides section, and look through that.

On my first amv I tried using divx and premiere...lol..boy was that fun. I then discovered huffyv codec (found here). Using virtual dub, I made sure any clips I made from divx movies were saved as huffyv codec. They are big, but premiere likes them a whole lot better.

to be nice and answer your other question: to see effects in your vid without completely rendering it, use the preview option (timeline->preview), that should help.

yes you must either push enter to preview it which means it'll let u view how the video will look if u exported it (shows all transitions and effects) just make sure u set the video to a codec that is fast encoding so u dont have to wait a lifetime previewing, i used to just always export it and watch it
