Problem with Fansubs and WMM

Post by inkjet1987 » Sun May 22, 2005 2:49 pm

Whenever I try to load a fansub that I have into Windows Movie Maker, it says,

Cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

I have DivX, but is there another kind of Codec I need? If anybody can help me out with this it would be appreciated.

First, for future refrence, this kind of question belongs in "video software help" section. don't make a new thread, a mod will move this one.

this may seem like an obvious question, but Can you play the file fine in regular windows media player?

I had that problem once... I went there>>http://www.inmatrix.com/zplayer/formats/ and downloaded all of the codecs. It fixed it right up, and I never had it again. ^.^

EDIT: Ok I downloaded the latest divx and the video is able to import. But now whenever it finishes importing, stupid WMM shuts down and gives an error report. Is there a better free movie making program, cause WMM is pissing me off now!

compress the fansubs with a codec that doesn't use interframe compression, like huffyuv or mjpeg, before importing them into wmm. video editing programs in general don't like interframe compression, and there's a good chance that your fansub uses interframe compression.
