Cross Dissolve Issues
Okay....I have Adobe Premiere Pro......and I'm trying to cross dissolve these two clips together..........><! But no matter what I do..two different scenes show up during the disolves. Its like a shadow effect. Am I using the wrong effect? I just want to merge the two clips together, fading one onto the other. ^.^() Hope I'm making sense.......
Real question: How do I get it so that it doesn't show other scenes during the disolve?
Note: I've already tried shortening the clips back a few notches....ends up being a lot of notches with no improvement ><

I only started to use Premiere Pro recently enough, so I hope I'm not mistaken on this (if I am, someone please flail me with wet noodles), but cross-dissolves, from what I've noticed, take the whole clip into account: whether you have cut or shortened it at some point to only keep the scene that you want doesn't matter.
Example: say you have two clips, Clip 1 and Clip 2, the latter containing scenes 1, 2 and 3. You want to keep scene 2 only, so you shorten the clip to show scene 2 on your timeline, and then apply the cross-dissolve, with part of it on the end of Clip 1 and the other part on Clip 2. The thing is, the cross-dissolve will still "detect" the frames from scene 1 that come previously to scene 2; here's what I think is your problem of an unwanted scene showing up during the dissolve, because while to your eyes, the clip is indeed "cut" to show the right scene only, for the software, the unwanted scenes are still here. Of course, this also works for Clip 1, if some unwanted frames are contained in it... etc.
What you can do:
- Try to do it using simple fade effects instead.
- Make sure to cut/time your scene 2 clip so that frames from said scene are also "contained under" the cross-dissolve.
- Shorten the cross-dissolve.
... Does this sound complex, for something that should be easy to explain... Bah :/

I tried to shorten the effect and that only led to the clips skipping without any effect at all. Just like a jerky clip change.
I also looked for another effect but the only one that doesn't do it would be the fade to black...and that kills the effect I am looking for...
I tried the cutting too, no matter how short I time the clip is still shows the other scenes
So...I dunno if I'm just being completely stupid or what ^.^() nothing seems to work.

hmmmmm....that problem is familiar to me. I had that happen to me before with Premiere. Well I have Premiere 6.0 not Pro. What are you using to fade a scene into another scene? If its with the transition on the timeline, forget that. that does not work that much, well it does but it doesn't work that well. You can try using the Faded Rubber Band Effect, I don't know if thats what you are using, if you are, I don't know how I could help you not have that problem.

how would I do that? If I over lap the clips they'll just kill the 2nd clip wont it? *blink*....I will have to try this...but then wont I have to cut half of it to overlap so that the rest of the clip isn't faded too?

i wrote taht in another post thought it may be of use hereThe14thGOD wrote:a way you may be able to do this, idk exactly what you want to do, but, if you wanted to do maybe a cross dissolve, you could take the video on Video Track 2 and animate the opacity setting, and then at the end of the clip (where the opacity is 100%) you can just have whereever that leaves off and add the clip to track 1. like i said idk what you are trying to do but maybe thatll lead you to something else
but you would also have to animate the opacity settings on track 1 too
