Rawrg! Conversion help needed...

Post by Dagre » Sat Jun 25, 2005 8:52 pm

Okay, I'm still having some trouble with these MKVs. I know that i can use VirtualDubMod to convert them, but i cant convert an entire episode because it takes up too much room in AVI format (about 15 gigs).

So my question is, is there anyway to convert it and keep it small??

And what format is "Vedio Clip"? Divx or somethin'? Is there a way to convert them to those and still keep the quailty?

My current problem with AMV making is that 46 out of 71 of my episodes of Ranma cant be used!! *cries* Plz help! Domo Arigatou!!

...Huffyuv? That's what I'd do. That's still going to take up some space, especially if you're trying for the entire series. Not impossible if you have a ginormous harddrive, but it sounds like you don't. Perhaps your best best is to storyboard first and only keep the scenes you know you want?

Under the Video menu in VirtualDubMod, there is an option called 'Direct Stream Copy', which will transfer the video stream into the AVI container when you save the file, unless the video stream is a RealMedia stream, in which I don't think VDubMod can even open it.

'Video Clip' means an AVI file. Go to the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, Folder options, View, and uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'.

Most AVIs are encoded with DivX or DivX-compatible XviD, and so are most MKVs.

However, it is best that you either cut short clips out of the DivX AVIs/MKVs and save them with HuffYUV to use later or learn how to frameserve the DivX AVIs straight into your editing program via AVISynth, which will save you the space that the clips would normally take up.
