I need help!

Post by IntendedChaos » Tue Jul 19, 2005 11:38 am

Ok, (i hope this is the right forum!) I am making my first ever AMV, and i want it to be a good one. I'm kinda a n00b at this, so i'm going to need some advice that is veeeery easy to understand. I want to make my AMV using clips from my Cowboy Bebop - the movie DVD, and edit using Windows Movie Maker (<because I already know how to use it.). My problem is, that i have no utter clue as to how i can get my clips onto my computer, and then into WMM, so i can work with them. I have already read the guides, and they only confused me more... so would someone please please please help me?

well, i'm not quite sure exactly what you mean by that, but i am trying to get footage from my DVD, once i save it on my computer, i can probably figure it all out from there. i'm just not sure of how to get it saved correctly.

OK, so you need to get it from your DVD to your computer. Other people will tell you differently, but I suggest using BitRipper to rip the DVD because it rips it to directly to AVI. After that, open up WMM and select Import/Import Into Collections. Select the movie, make sure the "make clips" box is checked, and click open.

But if you set it to use an MPEG-4 codec (DivX, XviD, 3ivX, etc.) when saving those AVI files, then don't be surprised if Windows Movie Maker chokes and crashes on them later on.

ok, new problem....
I got my movie on my computer, and i'm editing it, and everything was fine until i tried to add my music. Now, the places where the song i want to use is at is either on my computer, or on a burned CD. Every time I try to import it into Windows Movie Maker, it tells me that the file name is unsupported, or something. I even tried to use a professionally made CD, and it still told me that.

I don't know the details of WMM, but it sounds like if it's unsupported it must be in some kind of crazy format...

Also, you said that the audio is off discs... You should rip the song(s) you want to use onto your hard drive... that could be the problem. To do that, go grab a program like CD DA X-Tractor and use it to rip the track off your CD; or you could even use Windows Media Player, it has a ripping function. Off your burned CD you should be able to just drag it into your C drive somewhere.

Is it a .wav or .mp3? If not then I imagine you need to change it to one of those formats, which is a relatively easy process. If it *is* a .wav or .mp3 file... well... I don't know, ask someone who knows about this kind of stuff ;)

Hopefully that first bit was your problem though.
