Calling all Premiere 6.0 buffs..

Post by RainbowFae » Wed Sep 07, 2005 11:36 am

Alright. I'm going to try and be as unvague as possible..

I don't know if this effect is even possible in Premiere 6.0. I'm having trouble looking it up in manuals and on sites because I don't even know what the effect is CALLED. Basically, it's where you have a flat black screen or clip running with a little box or smaller clip running in the foreground.

It would look something like this:

(I'm an artist, I swear.)

Does anyone know what I'm talking about and, even better, how to do it?

Thanks guys. x__x;;

You need after effects for real control on this.

Premiere 6 can do something though, go to FILE > NEW > BLACK VIDEO, and drag the new black video clip from the library onto the timeline. Then put your clip on a track above it.

Right click your track and in one of the menus, I forget what its called Effect control maybe, theres a motion option. Using this option, you can resize/position the clip over the black bg.

But only the WHOLE clip. If you want just part of that clip, you'll need to do masking in After Effects.

Hope this helps.

Well, After Effects really isn't neccessary for something like this, though it is better suited for it.

In premiere, there are 2 quite simple ways of doing this. One (and the way I prefer) is to apply the "transform" effect to the clip, and reduce the scale. The other method would be the motion settings that mikestrife mentioned. I personally find the motion settings rather awkward and hard to handle, but your mileage may vary.

If you want to mask out parts of the video in premiere, you will want to look into image mattes and track mattes.

Haha, I used both of your options actually to get it to work. Thanks so much for replying. Now here's hoping I can remember this the next time I need to know it.

As a side note.. do you know what to call this kind of effect? lol

I just call it scaling and moving the layer. But thats probably too simple, I guess.
