Something very wierd has happened to my video playing ability.
I wish I could take screenshots of the problem, because photo would illustrate anything 100x better than anyting I could write about it, but most video players don''t play well with screenshot utilities. As best as I can sum it up:
- The video is very bright/washed out. Blacks and dark colors don't display well, existing whites, reds and yellows are way oversaturated.
- Lots of macroblocking.
- The video otherwise plays normaly.
- This problem has occured in Winamp (my default player), Windows Media Player 9/10, PowerDVD (even with DVDs) and VLC. Sometimes a video will play correctly in one player one day, then fail in the same player on another.
- Reinstalling players/codecs *sometimes* fixes the problem...for a few hours/days.
- Setting XVID to Force RGB24 or RGB32 *sometimes* fixes the problem on some files for a few hours/days.
- videos *always* play correctly under VirtualDubMod no mater how bad any other playing mode is screwing up.
Heeeeeeeelp....my saniity......

try getting ZoomPlayer, its free and simple, and see if it still gives you these weird colors...
try checking your video card settings..might have some to do with that

Re: Playing those damn videos
This suggests the problem has to do with DirectShow (vDubMod uses VfW if I recall correctly). Of course, that doesn't explain why VLC doesn't work, since VLC doesn't use codecs, let alone directshow stuff, but the problem might have to do with directX (which VLC does use). Try upgrading to the latest version of directX (keep your activation keys handy, Microsoft has gotten real fussy about that).Ellakano wrote: - videos *always* play correctly under VirtualDubMod no mater how bad any other playing mode is screwing up.

I would recommend the following:
1. Uninstall every codec and player that you have installed on your system.
2. Install the latest FFDSHOW: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video ... fdshow.cfm
3. Install the latest VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
I don't know why vlc wouldnt display properly... but hopefully that should fix the issue.
