well, I use adobe premiere... if you want to cough up 600, Adobe is definitely the way to go.

That seems to be the standard amont rookie AMV makers, you can do some sweet things with it (you can take the thirty day trial, that will let you make a couple AMVs while you decide)

if you want a cheaper solution then premiere... there is Magix movie edit pro. It's about $50 and works great.

id have to say adobe premiere and vegas video, either way they are both good and can do a good amount of effects and other niffty stuff that helps....

but there is Magix movie edit pro as pwolf said. its much cheaper then either of them and is a good program to use if you whana see an amv that was made using it you should see Euphoria

Asking for a recommendation is probably the worst thing you can do. Everyone will recommend you the program s/he uses, and the variety is wide. It'll confuse you more than it'll help. This is one reason why I only pointed to the lists.

The other reason is: You say only "Better than WMM" - and nearly every prog fullfills this criteria. What must it be able to do? How much can you spent? Check the website of the manufacturers, read the features and, very important, the minimum system requirements. Download the trial version where available and check what fits you best.

did little research, as i wasn't sure was vegas movie studio was exactly...

downloaded the trial and it looks pretty much like the full version, minus some of the extra stuff. pretty much what Premiere Elements is to Premiere Pro. Whichs means it's pretty decent for it's price :P
