program question

Post by Captain Spadaro » Tue Jan 24, 2006 2:43 pm

Is there a program that can convert ripped .vob files to AVI's? Before you say anything, know that I HAVE downloaded the AMVApp, and that I don't find anything wrong with it. However, the AMVApp is designed for use with Adobe Premiere, which I do not have. Nor do I have the funds to get myself a copy of Premiere. What I do have is Windows Movie Maker. I'm running Windows XP Professional with SP2, if that helps any.

The programs in the AMVapp that handle converting .VOB files to .AVI (DGIndex, AVISynth and its plugins, VirtualDubMod) are not tied to Adobe Premiere or any other NLE. The AVIs you can make by following EADFAG's directions will work just as well in Windows Movie Maker.

For the most part, that is. For more WMM2-specific instructions, see here:

(I submitted this guide to the Org over a month ago, so hopefully it'll be put up with the rest of the site guides soon...)

I can't make sense of the directions in EADFAG's guide. That's why I was asking if there is a program that does all that stuff for you.

If there was just a program to do it all for you, why do you think anyone would have bothered to even write a guide?

Well...now that I think about it, only 4-5% of the guide makes sense to me. I now regret goofing off in programming class. However, I THINK the guide is not geared toward people who use WMM (or are just starting out), but I could be wrong. Look here and judge for yourself.

There are two steps in that sequence that link to the instructions for those steps for Premiere 6.5 and older specifically when they really should be linking to a choice between instructions for various programs... blame AD for that. But there are equivalents for Vegas, Ulead, Premiere Pro, and WMM2 in the guide. Just not linked from that page like they probably should be.

Here's step 11 for WMM2:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... setup.html
Here's step 14 for WMM2:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... xport.html

And for steps 6, 8, and 9a for WMM2, I suggest:
http://www.aquilinestudios.org/wmm2guide.html

Everything else is NLE-independent and should work fine.

Ok. But what does NLE stand for?
